Art books and general reference
Development editing for art books
Earlier in her career, our development editor worked on the vast 36-volume Dictionary of Art published by Macmillan (now Grove Art Online). Challenging for any development editor, this work often required articles to be shortened while retaining their professional tone and the author’s voice.
Subsequently, Rachel commissioned and project managed the 400-page arts volume of a children’s encyclopedia for Larousse. She developed and worked with picture researchers and designers to fine-tune the layouts.
Magazine articles and briefings
Developing articles on health and wellbeing
Our development editor spent two years as editor of a print and digital health and wellbeing magazine (The Root and Branch Magazine – opens in new window). Working closely with the managing director, she developed content on health and wellbeing, often by inexperienced writers, to ensure a professional standard of content, while also keeping the tone friendly.
