About our writing and editing service

Excellence in editing and writing

Our professional writer and development editor, Rachel A H Beckett, has had experience of professional writing and development editing across a range of sectors, including mainstream publishing, educational publishing, higher education, professional bodies, engineering, finance and transport.

A gold standard – Pure Bold

Rachel’s trading name Pure Bold is a pun on ‘pure gold’, reflecting her commitment to setting and achieving a gold standard in professional writing and development editing.

The word ‘bold’, an obvious editorial reference, refers to text that is meaningful and substantive. Editors, of course, are interested in how type is set – roman, italic or bold. Something that is important and especially well worth saying may be set in bold.

‘Bold’ also hints at the can-do spirit exhibited by Rachel when tackling a challenging text! That said, she will only take on a development editing job if she detects that it has the potential for success.

Our professional editor and writer

Rachel A H Beckett

Our professional editor and writer has a broad educational background which informs her work. Rachel took a History of Art degree at Cambridge (St John’s College) followed by a stint in non fiction publishing before branching into other sectors. She later took a Master’s degree in illustration and printmaking (Buckinghamshire New University). She now works in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Rachel also holds a PGCE in secondary mathematics (University of Bristol). She occasionally offers her professional editing and writing skills for voluntary causes – for example editing or writing articles for Wikipedia – and she also writes self-illustrated, self-published books and undertakes art commissions [separate website].

Rachel has professional research interests of her own, relating to the visual arts, mathematics education and sustainability. These inform some of her own writing projects, and the external projects she likes to bid for.
