Development editing services

The best development editing

Our specialism is development editing, and our mission is to be the best development editing service in Gloucestershire and southwest England.

Our development editing service is ideally suited to formal documents such as reports, briefings and corporate literature, where complex but important messages must be clearly expressed.

Our editor Rachel Beckett works to a gold standard of quality in professional editing, taking time to ensure the quality of your document.

The best editing comes down to a strategic approach. It’s not just about syntax, grammar and punctuation but about structuring information to help readers navigate the content. It’s about ensuring that the tone is right for the readership, and that the text communicates the intended meaning logically and clearly without losing the reader’s attention.

Non fiction development editing

Excellent non fiction development editing ensures that any text, however complex, is clear to understand, while at the same time engaging the reader and holding their attention. This is what our development editor will seek to achieve for your book or commercial publication.

We will take on virtually any text (the exception is anything that is highly scientific or technological), ranging from Gloucestershire history and memoirs to official reports and corporate strategies.

Development editing for fiction

Our development editor has recently extended her reach into fiction and has a particular interest in fiction translated from a foreign language, having edited a novel translated by the author from Italian, and a children’s story translated from Ukrainian. She welcomes similar projects.

Developing children’s illustrated fiction

Rachel, a qualified teacher, has recent experience in editing illustrated fiction for young children, and indeed has edited children’s picture books for clients in several locations across the anglophone world. She supports authors in developing an effective narrative arc to structure their story and in avoiding common pitfalls. Rachel has experience in illustration herself, and understands the symbiosis between text and image in children’s illustrated stories. Her editing always includes generous constructive feedback for the author, with concrete suggestions for enhancement.
